IT is with some relief that we reveal regeneration plans for Newport’s landmark Lysaght Institute today.
Up to £50 million will be spent on providing new jobs and homes as well as restoring this famous building.
Supermarket chain Morrisons is a key part of the Linc-Cymru proposals for what it is calling Lysaght Parc.
The store will create 200 jobs as well as those created in its construction.
A detailed planning application will go to the city’s council in January.
The Lysaght Institute has played a key role in Newport’s life over the years.
It is nothing short of a scandal that it has been left to ruin for so many years.
Now the plan is to transform it back to its former glory and into a community facility once again.
This building was put up for the people and paid for by the people.
We hope these plans see the light of day after so many other failed ventures in recent years.
It is only right and fitting that the Lysaght Institute becomes part of the community once again.
