THE Gwent couple who won a staggering £45.5 million share the Euromillions jackpot will be named today.
Lottery organisers Camelot will reveal the married couple who have scooped half of Friday’s £90 million prize at a press conference in Cardiff.
Officials remained tight-lipped last night over the identity of the winning couple, saying only they were from “just outside Newport.”
Other Argus sources said they were from Ringland and the Torfaen area.
The win will put them on a financial par with DJ Chris Evans, Jenson Button and even Michael Caine, and is one of two tickets which won the £90 million jackpot.
The other is thought to be held by a syndicate of seven or eight staff working at a BT office in Liverpool.
It is the latest win in Gwent’s 2009 winning streak, with Gwent gamblers grabbing between a quarter of a £1.4 million.
In April Abertillery laundry assistant Joanne Gilbert picked up £1.4 million, while just a month later 70-year-old Eileen Jones of Nantyglo won £250,000.
Then in June Newbridge carpenter Peter Hayward won £250,000 on a scratchcard.
It seems the streak has yet to end, last month the National Lottery announced that a ticket of £189,610 was waiting to be claimed.
The Torfaen winner has until 5.30pm on November 30 to come forward.
Friday’s winning Euromillions numbers were 19, 43, 45, 34 and 11 with Lucky Star numbers 5 and 9.
Nine European countries take part in the draw, including Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg.
