NEWPORT postman Ian Abbinett got a close-up look at what is set to become a very familiar sight during the next few weeks - the designs for new festive stamps.
Mr Abbinett helped launch the new stamps at Newport Cathedral, an appropriate venue given that this year's theme is a religious one, following last year's secular theme of pantomimes.
The stamps feature characters from the nativity depicted in stained windows.
Designer Andrew Ross researched hundreds of photographs of stained glass windows in churches across the UK, before deciding upon the final set of images from the 19th century.
They feature the Madonna and child, angels, Joseph, a wise man, and a shepherd.
"These precious images of the nativity have a timeless appeal and are a wonderful way of telling the story of Christmas here and around the world," said Huw Roberts, director of Welsh affairs with the Royal Mail Group.
Recommended last posting dates for the UK are: Second Class - Friday 18th December; First Class - Monday 21st December; Special Delivery - Wednesday 23rd December.
