This saw around 400 students, from years seven and eight, and some sixth form students, take part in the special assembly.
Joan Reynolds from the Bassaleg and Rhiwderin branch of the Royal British Legion spoke to the students about the meaning of the poppy, the importance of remembrance and all about the Royal British Legion and its purpose.
Ron Jones, 92, who fought in the Second World War was also at the assembly and is a strong supporter of the school.
Piper Terry St John played at the beginning and end of the assembly and played Flowers of the Forest.
The Royal British Legion standard was carried by Lyn Short and bugler David Jones from Caerleon played The Last Post.
A 12 minute film was shown and two First World War poems were read by the school’s head boy and head girl.
