THE Welsh Rugby Union today announced a £1 million deal with Lloyds TSB to sponsor the national leagues for a three year period.
The deal covers division one to seven, excluding the premier because of the uncertainty over what is going to happen at the highest level in the immediate future.
"I'm delighted a firm of the stature of Lloyds has chosen to be involved with Welsh rugby," said WRU Chairman Glanmor Griffiths.
"The investment in terms of money, commercial and promotional commitment is extremely valuable to Welsh rugby.
"This latest and most important sponsorship reflects Wales and Welsh rugby as a major player in the international rugby scene and ensures that we have a clear and bright future for our national leagues in particular."
Jon Phelps, head of sponsorship for Lloyds TSB added: "We have a long standing history in the world of rugby following our title sponsorship of the Six Nations championships.
"We are keen to maintain this association particularly in Wales where rugby is at the heart of the nation."
Jonathan Davies, an ambassador for Lloyds TSB, said that it such changing times people should not forget the grassroots of the game.
"Great talent is still there and with more funding and help coming through it shows there is a massive commitment for Welsh rugby."
