NEWPORT will have no representation in the Wales 22 for the first time for the last three years when they take on Romania in Wrexham on Friday night.

Andy Marinos, who has been well below par this season, has been omitted from the 22 after being named in the original squad of 30 last week.

Marinos had been a regular through last season's Six Nations Championship and in South Africa in the summer.

But he loses his place, as does prop Chris Anthony, not included in the original 30, while lock Ian Gough was not considered because of a back injury which has kept him out all season.

Also left out of the 22 named yesterday are Cardiff pair Iestyn Harris and Martyn Williams.

The outside halves are Stephen Jones and Neil Jenkins, while skipper Colin Charvis is set to start at open side alongside rival Scott Quinnell, with Pontypridd's Michael Owen at blindside completing a big back row.

Ponty pair Sonny Parker and Gethin Jenkins are set to win their first caps against the Romanians, who are likely to provide little more than cannon fodder for Wales.

Parker is a New Zealander now qualified for Wales on residence, while Jenkins is a promising loose head who will come under close scrutiny.

But former Ebbw Vale prop Iestyn Thomas, now with Llanelli, is sure to remain for their bigger Tests to come in November.
