THE Welsh Rugby Union have thrown out the two citings Newport claimed against Leinster players before the cases even got to Ireland.
Leinster cited Newport prop Adrian Garvey after last Friday night's Celtic League quarter-final at Donnybrook.
They claim Garvey stamped on their Australian outside half Nathan Spooner (pictured), causing a variety of head injuries which forced him to leave the field.
Officials watched the video and decided to cite Garvey, producing photographic evidence as well to support their case.
Newport coach Ian McIntosh was angry at Leinster's action, claiming any use of the boot was not intentional.
And in response Newport passed their own evidence to the WRU disciplinary committee, saying they wanted Spooner cited for a late tackle on wing Matt Mostyn and replacement forward Trevor Brennan cited for a dangerous tackle on Garvey.
The procedure is that the union of the accused player first looks at the video evidence to see if there is a case to answer before passing it on to the player's own union if they feel there is.
But the WRU have decided the Newport citing of Spooner and Brennan should not go ahead.
McIntosh today said diplomatically: "We were informed that there was no intent in those tackles and we accept that, albeit we feel that they were not within the law." Garvey's case, which has been passed to the WRU by their Irish counterparts, will probably be discussed next week.
Under International Board guidelines if a player is found guilty of stamping on an opponent's head the punishment is an automatic three-months ban.
*Alix Popham scored a try as an over-age player for Newport under-21s in their 86-3 drubbing of Newport & District at Rodney Parade last night. It was Popham's first appearance since breaking a bone in his wrist in September.
