NEWPORTS Shane Howarth (left) insists his side can gain revenge on Leinster when the two teams clash in their quickfire Heineken Cup return at Rodney Parade on Friday night.

Howarth believes home advantage, crowd support and the right preparation this week can all combine to help Newport end the Irish provinces unbeaten record.

Leinster achieved their tenth successive victory when they beat Newport 21-6 at Donnybrook last Friday night.

Their second and last try came deep into injury time, but coach Ian McIntosh, Howarth, players and the hundreds of travelling fans all believe they can avenge the defeat this week.

But there is a unanimous feeling, among the fans at least, that Newport need more pace in the backs.

Weve got to turn our ground into a fortress, said Howarth. With our own crowd behind us that will be a bonus, and hopefully we can do it for them next week, said Howarth after the game.

Theyve won the points, but the opportunities were there for us. Youve got to give credit to the Leinster defence and weve got to look at ways of opening their defence.

They scored a very soft try in the first half, but its gone now and weve got to keep plugging away.

Weve got to make sure the preparations are right this week and make sure it happens.

Leinster have got three away games now which makes the next game very important and weve got to snatch a win.

Its good to know we can match Leinster and if we can win on Friday that will really set us up.

And coach Ian McIntosh insists: We can take credit from this game. It was a lot closer than the score suggests.

Theyve been scoring a lot of tries, but we pushed them hard and we know we can compete with them.
