Juboraj, Commercial Street, Newport. TUCKED in amid the shops at the lower end of the city centre, this restaurant's unimposing frontage belies the delights inside.

We arrived early on a Friday evening but we weren't alone in the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere of the Juboraj.

After a brief wait for our table, while we enjoyed our drinks, the efficient staff showed us to our seats.

Eager to sample as much as possible to make this review as broad as possible, two of us chose starters as well as main meals.

Thirteen-year-old Adam wisely opted for just one course so he did not leave feeling quite as overstuffed as his greedy parents.

We started with generous servings of crispy chicken pakoras and tasty onion bhajis, both nicely presented with a fresh salad.

Adam tucked into chicken tikka, from the tandoori oven, again served with salad, while his dad had his favourite chicken tikka massala and I opted for one of the Juboraj specials, coriander chicken. This dish was subtly spiced and absolutely delicious.

Accompanied by a portion of pilau rice, one helping of chips and the softest, buttery naan bread we have enjoyed for a long time, this was a satisfying and filling repast which left no room at all for any of the varied entries on the dessert menu.

Sad to say, we could not even fit in a coffee. The bill came with some lovely orange-flavoured chocolates - yes, we did eat these even though we really shouldn't have - and it was a reasonable £38.40 for an excellent meal and drinks.

We all agreed the Juboraj would be well worth a return visit.
