A FORMER Miss Gwent is holding a charity ball in memory of her mother, who died from cancer.

Terri Morgan lost an 18-month battle with bowel cancer a year ago and her daughter, Alexandra Morgan, 25, and former nurse, Karyn Sivyer, 58, have organised a ball to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund, which supports research into bowel cancer.

The ball will take place on May 15 and on Saturday, the anniversary of Mrs Morgan’s death, her family will remember her at Newport’s St John’s Church and take daffodils to her grave.

Since her mother’s death, Miss Morgan, who lives in Newport and was Miss Gwent in 2008, has undergone various fundraising work in her memory, including running last October’s Cardiff Half Marathon.

Ms Sivyer treated Mrs Morgan at the Royal Gwent Hospital two years ago and the pair became close friends.

In September, Miss Morgan and Ms Sivyer will travel to Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in Brazil with the Bobby Moore Fund to renovate a dilapated school and football pitch.

They need to raise £8,000 for the charity between them to go.

The ball will take place at the Celtic Manor Lodge.

Miss Morgan is currently looking for a band and there will also be a dance, raffle and auction.

"We want to celebrate her life and focus on our memories of her," she said.
