A VALLEYS art student recreated an iconic piece of artwork by painting a wall of bread with Marmite.

Nathan Wyburn, 20, made street artist Banksy’s “Maid in London” in Ebbw Vale town centre, using a kitchen knife, 160 loaves and six jars of Marmite.

The artist, from Ebbw Vale, has gained a worldwide following after uploading videos of him working on various art projects onto Youtube - which have been watched by more than 1.5 million people.

His latest piece, filmed last week, took more than four hours to produce and was afterwards devoured by a herd of hungry horses - after Mr Wyburn offered the feast to a passing farmer to prevent it going to waste.

Mr Wyburn said: "I came up with the idea because people see Banksy’s work as either art or graffiti, so they either love or hate it -just as they either love or hate Marmite."

The project was commissioned by Marmite as part of its Spread the Love advertising campaign, after the company spotted his other Marmite-art videos online and appointed him their 'breakfast artist'.

In the past, Mr Wyburn has painted a portrait of Simon Cowell using 30 pieces of toast and Marmite, depicted Lady Gaga in sugar and drawn Heath Ledger with graphic pencils.

He films all his projects himself, mostly in his bedroom using a webcam and tripod.

The former Coleg Gwent student is currently studying fine art at the University of Wales in Cardiff and hopes to present art programmes for children’s television in the future.
