THREE city snappers have scooped the big prizes in our 'Newport through a lens' competition.
Images of the Civic Centre, Usk River footbridge and the city centre will go on display at Taylor Wimpey’s Great Western Wharf development, off Argosy Way, this summer after three photographers triumphed in our Newport Through a Lens competition.
Lloyd Miller, 21, from High Cross, Gareth Sobey, 41, of Malpas and Nick Fowler, 45, from Caerleon Road, each received £500 prizes.
Mr Fowler is a wedding photographer and sound engineer. He spends his spare time taking pictures of Newport and his winning shot was of the Civic Centre through spring flowers.
CCTV operator Gareth Sobey, 41, of Malpas Road, said: “My entry was of the new footbridge taken from George Street Bridge. It wasn’t easy, as when the traffic is going over it, it keeps moving.”
Lloyd Miller, 21, of High Cross, is a photographic arts student at the University of Wales, Newport. He climbed on top of a building in the city centre to gain a view of all the empty shop units.
He said: “You could see part of the Westgate Hotel, and taking it from an unusual angle gave a unique view of Newport.”
