FIVE Torfaen schoolchildren are appearing on buses to promote a healthy school meals campaign.
Torfaen council chose the faces of Jordon Cooper, 11, of Abersychan Comprehensive School, Georgia Groves, 12, of Llantarnam School, Nicole Kinnear, 16, of Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School, Cerys Williams, 15, of West Mon School, and TJ Francis, 11, of Fairwater Comprehensive School, to front its campaign on local buses this month.
The winning slogan, “Gimme five! Torfaen's school meals - on the way to five-a-day” was thought up by Ryan Potter, 11, of St Alban's High School in Pontypool, who won an iPod Touch and £250 for his school.
The campaign is part of the Assembly-funded Appetite for Life project, which has seen £200,000 spent on upgrading kitchens at seven comprehensive schools in Torfaen.
The project has also provided better training for kitchen staff and seen the introduction of a healthy meal action plan, aimed at giving schoolchildren a balanced and nutritious diet.
