A RISCA man is appealing for the Good Samaritan who called an ambulance after he passed out at the wheel of his car to come forward so he can thank them for making the potentially lifesaving phone call.
Gerard Halliday, 47, was driving from his Risca home to work as manager of Rileys’s Snooker Club in Newport on April 1 when he started to feel dizzy and unwell.
As he reached the A48 roundabout at Tredegar Park in Newport, he pulled over at the side of the road, where he had a seizure and lost consciousness.
The next thing he can remember is waking up in the city’s Royal Gwent Hospital.
Mr Halliday, a father-of-one, said: “It was very frightening. I had another seizure in hospital, and was kept in for five days while they did tests. I am still waiting for the results.”
But Mr Halliday, a former soldier who fought in the Falklands war, believes he only got to hospital because someone saw him in trouble at the side of the road, stopped and called an ambulance.
He has not been able to find out from hospital staff or paramedics who contacted them to say he had fallen ill in his car, and is now appealing for that person to come forward to he can offer them his thanks.
He said: “Someone must have seen me and called an ambulance, and for whatever reason didn't stay around. I would like to meet up with them if I can to say thank you, because God knows what would have happened if someone had not come to my aid.”
Mr Halliday was driving a black Volkswagen polo between 8.30am and 8.45am at the Tredegar Park roundabout on Thursday April 1.
