GWENT golf enthusiasts can rub shoulders with sporting heroes including Bernard Gallacher, Alan Shearer, Harry Redknapp and Austin Healey at a special celebrity gold tournament at the Celtic Manor next month.
The two day tournament in aid of the Bobby Moore Foundation will be held on May 17 and 18, giving 26 teams the chance to play alongside a list of famous faces, as well as testing out the Celtic Manor’s Twenty Ten Course before the Ryder Cup in October.
Celebrities confirmed for the tournament so far include team captains Bernard Gallacher and Gordon Brand Jnr, rugby star Austin Healey, England cricketer Matt Prior, Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles and TV commentator Clive Tyldesley.
Teams of four willing to cough up the £3,000 entry fee for the tournament will get to play one round of golf on the Twenty Ten course with a selection of the famous names confirmed to attend, followed by a glamorous evening meal.
On day two, teams will play on the Montgomerie Course, designed by Ryder Cup Team Europe captain Colin Montgomerie.
All cash raised will go to the Bobby Moore Fund which helps raise funds for research into bowel cancer and increase awareness of the disease.
The fund was set up by Sir Bobby’s widow Stephanie Moore MBE in memory of her husband, who died from bowel cancer in 1993 at the age of 51.
