The RSPCA is appealing for information after a dog was abandoned in a remote spot in the Valleys.
The adult dark brindle and white Staffordshire bull terrier was dumped on common land in between Markham and New Tredegar near on April 11 at around 3.30pm.
The driver of a blue Land Rover dumped the dog called Saffy on the side of the road before speeding off. A member of the public witnessed the incident and contacted the RSPCA who are now looking after the three-year-old.
The dog was microchipped but the contact details had not been kept up to date which made it impossible to trace an owner.
Inspector Nicola Johnson, who is investigating, said: "I am absolutely horrified that someone could dump this lovely dog in this way. She was literally left to fend for herself with little chance of being found.
"She was very lucky that someone saw what was happening."
Abandoning an animal in a way likely to cause suffering is a criminal offence. Under the Animal Welfare Act, those guilty could face a fine of up to £20,000 and or a six-month prison sentence.
Anyone with any information on this incident should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
