TWO Newport brothers will set off to drive around 10,000 miles to Mongolia in an old, beaten up Fiesta.
This is despite admitting they know nothing about mechanics and "wouldn't know the front or back end of a spanner".
David Evans, 32, from Duffryn, and brother Darren, 35, from St Brides, will take part in the Mongol Rally, which entails driving from London through 19 countries, with the final leg of the journey a gruelling trek through the Gobi Desert to Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar.
The pair bought a 2001 model Fiesta for £1,200, which will be donated as a mobile doctor's unit on their arrival.
They are also trying to raise £4,000 for the Christina Noble Foundation- which helps homeless children in Mongolia- by selling advertising space on the car.
David Evans, who now lives in Duffryn with wife, Jen and son Archie, five, said the four a half week trip "appealed to our sense of adventure".
He said: "Breaking down will be a part of it, but neither of us are any good mechanically. It is about seeing places we would never get to see again, like driving through central Moscow, Kazakhstan and the Gobi Desert."
The pair have got time off work from employment firm, Working Links, and will set off on July.
