THERE wasn’t a cloud to be seen as the April sunshine attracted thousands of visitors to the third annual Monmouth Country Fair at the weekend.
With everything from crafts to animal displays, shopping stalls to food halls there was something for everyone during the two-day event at Monmouth Showground.
Around 4,000 people soaked up the sun on Saturday, with a similar figure expected to enjoy the fair yesterday.
The country fair run by Living Heritage Events included a vast array of stalls and displays such as the Make and Take Marquee for children, glassblowing, textile knitwear, hamster and rabbit displays, split cane rod making, ferrets, long netting, angling tuition and cookery demonstrations at The Country Kitchen.
Quirkier displays included chainsaw carving where visitors could see a piece of reclaimed timber being turned into a sculpture of anything from a pig to a fox or an eagle resting on a perch.
Hundreds of people sat on the grass around the main arena to watch The Mounted Games Association, horse logging demonstrations, scurry racing heats and falconry, with Boris the eagle and hawks Maggie and Rocky providing entertainment.
Visitors could also have a go themselves with workshops on learning how to fly a hawk, train a gundog and fly an eagle.
And in other parts of the showground there were children’s puppet shows, gundog displays, archery, paint-balling, fair rides, dog training, quad biking and owl training.
Organiser Marge Needham said: “It was really busy as the weather brought everybody out. It’s the best show we’ve put on yet. Everyone really enjoyed it, everyone had smiles on their faces. We’ve been really happy to come to Monmouth and have some sunshine.
