THIS is the moment Danielle Arthur was dreading - having a hairdresser take the scissors to her long brown hair.
Miss Arthur, 27, of Brunel Steet, Pill, had her ten-inch long locks reduced to a much shorter style, so that child leukaemia sufferers could benefit.
The hair is being sent to the Little Princess Trust, who will forward it to China, where it will be used to make wigs for children affected by the disease.
Miss Arthur said the relinquishing of her hair was down to her partner’s mother, Caroline Watkins, who suffered from lymphoma cancer and has taken part in fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Toni and Guy in Newport kindly offered to cut Miss Arthur’s hair for free and she collected sponsor money from family and friends to be sent with the hair.
After being given the chop, the hair, which must be straight, was tied at the top and bottom, wrapped in cling film and sent to the charity by post. It will then be packaged to the Far East where it is put strand by strand into the wigs.
