RYDER Cup organisers have finalised plans for two park and ride facilities, to provide sole entry points to the event for spectators arriving by car.
Former steelworks land at Llanwern, and an expanded Tredegar House car park will be able to accommodate up to 15,000 cars on each competition day, October 1-3, and practice and opening ceremony days, September 28-30.
The Llanwern site will hold 12,000 vehicles travelling from the east and England, while Tredegar House will accommodate up to 3,000 coming from the west.
Surfacing works should be completed by May 31. Each site will include security and ticket checking facilities for spectators, who will board coaches to the Celtic Manor Resort.
"We have based the plans on our experience of previous Ryder Cups at The Belfry and the K Club, where spectators had a very smooth passage into the park and ride facilities, and then onwards to the event," said Ryder Cup director Richard Hills.
"Security has to be our top priority, but we are also very confident the arrangements will ensure spectators enjoy their Ryder Cup experience, while minimising disruption for those going about their normal business.
"They event will be a sell-out, which means we will have up to 30,000 people a day going through the two sites. We want every single one to have a great time."
Ticketholders will be directed to a specific park and ride depending on where they live, or what their location will be during the match.
It is hoped traffic pressures on the first competitive day, Friday October 1, will be eased by a Newport schools inset day.
