A SENIOR Gwent crown prosecutor will stand trial in June charged with perverting the course of justice.
Sarfraz Ibrahim, 50, of Cyncoed, Cardiff, denied perverting the course of justice and misconduct in a public office at Swansea Crown Court in November last year.
His co-defendant Saifur Khan, 26, of Penylan, Cardiff, also denies perverting the course of justice.
The allegations against Ibrahim, who grew up in Newport, cover a period between May and August last year, when he was working for the Crown Prosecution Service in Gwent.
Ibrahim is accused of accepting £20,000 in August last year to advise that a man should not be charged with assault.
Details of the charge state that there were a series of acts between May and August 2009 in which Ibrahim engaged in conduct that was an abuse of public trust while in public office and being employed by the Crown Prosecution Service.
A CPS spokeswoman said Ibrahim's trial will take place at Swansea Crown Court starting on June 14.
Both men are currently on bail.
