A BLAENAVON cheese company has sent a supply of its new "Dragon’s Breath" cheese to the European Parliament in Brussels this week as part of an event to promote Welsh business.
The Blaenafon Cheddar Company sent its distinctive cheeses to Brussels to form part of the refreshments of the event while The Ospreys Supporters Choir provided the entertainment.
Owner of the Blaenafon Cheddar Company, Susan Fiander-Woodhouse said: “The Blaenafon Cheddar Co, were extremely excited about the cultural event held this week. Having represented Wales at “The Disneyland Paris Welsh Festival” in March it is good to know that the representation of Welsh produce is continuing.
“As a small family-run business we do not produce enough product to satisfy the retail sector in Europe, but we do cope with private internet orders from all over the world.”
The event at the European Parliament on Tuesday, April 13 was hosted by Plaid Cymru MEP, Jill Evans.
Ms Evans said: "This was a very good opportunity to raise Wales's profile in Europe, and to promote our music, culture and sport in the institutions of the European Union.
"As well as a taste of our music and culture, MEP's staff and the Welsh community in Brussels had an actual taste of finest Welsh cheese.
"I congratulate the Blaenafon cheddar company for showing Wales at its best.”
Susan Fiander-Woodhouse and her husband Gerry Woodhouse established their cheese-making business in December 2006 and have since run their Welsh produce shop on Broad Street in Blaenavon.
The new Dragon’s breath cheese is a hot chilli cheddar flavoured with Brains S.A. Welsh ale.
