A GROUP of fashion students at Newport University have designed a rage of golf wear fit for the world’s best golf players in the run up to the Ryder Cup.
Five fashion students at the University of Wales Newport were asked as part of their second year of studies at the Caerleon campus to found a fashion company and design a range of golf wear inspired by Newport’s role as host of the Ryder Cup 2010 tournament.
Abegayle Williams, 21, Sammy Giles, Amy Griffiths, Emily McCarthy, and Anne-Marie Hodder, all aged 20, founded their brand Quintessential, and will now have their collection of men’s and women’s wear put on display at a special exhibition at Neath Port Talbot College.
Miss Williams said the team of young designers had used floral designs and a vintage-inspired colour scheme for the eight items which include shirts, cardigans, jump suits and jackets.
“We wanted to design practical golf wear with an on-trend twist,” she said. “We would love to see them worn on the green at the Ryder Cup!”
Quintessential’s collection will be displayed at Neath Port Talbot College on from May 4-6.
