TWO young Gwent brothers are appealing for support in raising money for an expedition to Mexico to help local community projects.
Sam and Haydn Bass, aged 15 and 14, have to raise £3,600 each for the trip to Mexico and Belize in July 2011.
The two Caerleon School pupils from Langstone are fundraising to supplement the money they make from their paper rounds delivering the Argus.
Their dad Brian Bass, 50 said: "The boys are doing all sorts of things to raise the £3,600 they need. They have washed cars, cut grass and are running a stall at a car-boot sale. Friends and family have donated lots of items for the boys to sell."
The expedition is run by the World Challenge organisation and aims to teach those involved valuable life skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork.
The boys’ have an initial target of £350 to raise by June this year and are asking for support in the form of donations and items to sell.
The four-week trip consists of two weeks hiking and walking, which the boys must plan themselves, and then a week helping in the local community. Mr Bass, 50, said: "At this stage it’s impossible to say what they will be doing but it’s likely it will be refurbishing a local school, digging wells or helping in the community. It is certainly no holiday."
