A NEWPORT Gwent Dragons season ticket holder is delighted his charity has been chosen as his team’s charity for next season.
Iain Richards is a passionate Dragons fan and doesn’t let the fact he lives in London stop him from attending every game.
Mr Richards, originally from Blackwood, travels 150 miles every weekend from London to see his beloved Dragons play.
Mr Richards is a co-ordinator for the rugby charity SKRUM which has now been announced as the Dragons’ International Charity for next season.
"When I first encountered the charity I thought it was a great cause. Funnily enough I had my first meeting with Claire Butler, another SKRUM fundraiser, in Rodney Park when I was at a game a few years ago. It’s wonderful for me the Dragons have now got involved in the charity," said Mr Richards.
The charity was featured in Friday's Dragons v Blues match programme and also received the bucket collection.
SKRUM is based in Swaziland, a country heavily affected by HIV and Aids.
A registered charity since 2008, SKRUM uses rugby to educate the children of Swaziland about the diseases.
They visit schools and spread their message while getting the children out and playing rugby. Thanks to SKRUM’s efforts rugby is now the fastest growing sport in Swaziland.
