A POLITICAL party’s Newport office was subjected to graffiti last week and its posters defaced.
The Welsh Conservatives building on Church Road in Newport had messages such as “burn this building!” and “Wales all welcome - except Tories” scrawled on with black marker pen on April 18 and 19.
The police were called on both occasions and Newport East candidate Dawn Parry said staff were fortunately able to clean it off.
Ms Parry said her posters which have been put up around the constituency are also getting damaged on a daily basis.
She said that many had been ripped down in the Langstone, Caldicot and Maindee areas and have had to constantly be replaced.
She said one large board measuring eight foot by four foot had been “ripped to shreds” in Caldicot.
Ms Parry said some of these type of boards had even been stolen in parts of Newport.
The parliamentary candidate said some garden boards and large boards on Chepstow Road in Newport had been defaced with what she said were “little Hitler moustaches” drawn on to her face.
Ms Parry said: “We can’t keep replacing them, it’s not within our budget. It’s undemocratic to do this.
“Obviously, someone feels very threatened.”
Ms Parry said she had also had problems with leaflets with hundreds found dumped in Beechwood Park which should have been distributed to local residents and some houses receiving nine or ten copies of the leaflet in one go.
