A WOMAN was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday after a man died in a house in the Valleys.
A 30-year-old man was found by police with serious injuries at a house in Greenwood Road, Abersychan.
Police could not confirm the nature of the injuries or the cause of death, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
It is believed the man suffered a stab wound to the chest.
Next-door-neighbour Doug Parfitt, 56, along with his partner Liz and his daughter Sadie, 27, rushed to his aid and tried in vain to resuscitate him.
Mr Parfitt, who has known the man for around eight years, said when they got into his front room, he was face down and struggling to breathe so they called 999 and were instructed to apply pressure to the chest wound.
He said: "There was blood everywhere, it was horrible. We tried to save him but he died in my missus' arms.
He was a nice guy, you won't meet a better bloke."
Miss Parfitt added: "He took his last breath then he stopped, there was nothing anybody could have done. He was lovely."
A 30-year-old woman from Abersychan, believed to be the partners of the deceased, was arrested in connection with his death and remained in custody yesterday evening.
A police cordon sealing off all of Greenwood Road remained in place yesterday afternoon.
Pat Jones, 50, whose home on Hillrise backs onto the house where the man died, said she has known him for around four years: "He was always smiling, a nice guy. It's just terrible what's happened, I was very shocked when I heard."
A post mortem examination was carried out yesterday but the cause of death was not available as the Argus went to Press.
Police said they have recovered a number of items from the house where the man died which are currently being forensically examined.
The Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle was at the scene by 7.16pm, followed by an ambulance at 7.35pm.
Police are asking for people with any information about the incident to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
