A TOWN council passed a motion of no confidence in a Monmouthshire department responsible for a historic venue dogged by problems.
Caldicot Town Council made the decision on Wednesday after councillors said they were worried for the future of catering services at Caldicot Castle.
No tender has yet taken over the role of Jameson’s Events in running banquets and weddings at the castle, after the firm ceased trading last year.
Tea-rooms at the castle have also closed.
Cllr Kay Harris said their questions to Monmouthshire council had not been answered and said there was no reason for the tearooms to be shut.
She said: "It’s looks as though they are letting the Castle die."
Cllr Tony Easson said he has also had difficulty finding out what has been happening and that he was worried for the future of the castle.
"We should be considering taking it over ourselves," he said.
The group also decided to invite council officers to discussion the situation at a future date.
Consultants have been appointed to review catering at the castle, according to a written answer to questions to councillor and cabinet member Giles Howard from Cllr Easson at the council meeting on April 15.
He added that the report into the original tender to Jamesons for the catering contract is now with lifelong learning and leisure corporate director Andy Keep.
Mr Keep said the department understands people are keen to see the facilities reinstated.
"We also want to ensure the service is available soon," he said, adding the council wants to find the best people for the job and make sure that firm doesn’t hit problems.
"We are considering the options for tendering the catering operation and expect to start the process later in the year. In the meantime we are making temporary arrangements for special events and for the few wedding bookings taken by the previous caterer," he added.
"We will reopen the tearoom as soon as we can."
