A VALLEYS man found dead at his home was named yesterday as police bailed the woman on suspicion of his murder.

The 30-year-old man found with serious chest injuries by police on Tuesday evening in Abersychan was named as Alan Falvey.

Police confirmed a 30-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder in the wake of Mr Falvey's death was believed to have been living with him prior to his death. She has now been bailed until June 9.

Supt Peter Keen said he could not confirm if there was any history of domestic problems between the two, adding that Mr Falvey was killed by suspected knife wounds.

Forensic tests are being carried out on knives recovered from the house to determine if any of these was the weapon used in the suspected killing.

Interim results on the post mortem carried out on the victim revealed he died from a serious chest injury.

It is believed Mr Falvey died from a single stab wound to the chest, but police were not able to confirm this.

Mr Falvey is originally from Newport and still has family in the city.

Family liaison officers are speaking to Mr Falvey's family, but it is understood his parents are on holiday in Tenerife and are returning home after being told about his death.

Friends and neighbours in Greenwood Road last night paid tribute to Mr Falvey, describing him as a nice guy who would do anything for anyone.

Rebecca Tillyer said: "He was a really great guy and always had a smile on his face, he loved gardening and he loved his music and was playing the decks."

Merrill Morgan said: "I just saw him to say hello but he was very nice and seemed a lovely guy."

Jayne Thomas added: "He was a very nice and kind guy and was very into his gardening."

Police said the silent 999 call which notified them to a problem was made from a landline in Greenwood Road around 7pm.

Officers and the ambulance service went to the house, but Mr Falvey was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

A police cordon sealing off all of Greenwood Road was lifted late yesterday afternoon, but the house remained closed off last night.

Police are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Greenwood Road between 6pm and 7pm on Tuesday and may have seen something unusual to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
