I am a retired Engineering Director who has lived in Torfaen for nearly 50 years.
Two years ago I was elected as a Community Councillor, and have been serving my community by using my Local Project Funding to support the opening of the new Community Hall in Pentwyn and to provide solar powered intruder lights for the elderly.
I have also been active in opposing the opencasting at Varteg and also supporting wind turbines on the local moors.
I am not standing for Parliament in the expectation of becoming an MP. There are many good people in Torfaen who are prepared to want less in order to make life in the future easier for their children and grandchildren, and I want to give them the opportunity of voting for the Green Party.
I realise that I have lived during the best time to be alive and in one of the best countries, and am fully aware that the benefits of unthinking exploitation of the planet’s mineral reserves cannot continue. Current economic thinking is based on the experience of the last two centuries that growth is beneficial, but there cannot be unlimited growth on a finite planet.
The Green party support the need for government spending to create employment, but this would only be done as an investment in the future.
Examples are high standards of insulation for homes as the Green Party have spearheaded in Huddersfield. Gathering of renewable energy both in the home with solar water heating and for communities in wind and water turbines provide a good investment. The Green Party aim to support the National Health Service by removing the bureaucracy and expense of the Private Finance Initiative.
The Green Party have a wide range of costed proposals for solving the present day problems. These can be found at www.greenparty.org.uk.
The independent Vote for Policies, Not Personalities website www.voteforpolicies.org.uk has had over 150,000 people participate in its survey to ascertain which party’s policies they most support, without initially revealing which parties follow which policies.
The Liberal Democrats are currently showing in second place, with just over 18%, ahead of Labour (17.6%) and the Conservatives (16.5%).
The Greens, however, are way ahead of them all, with well over 27% of respondents preferring Green Party policies.
To enable your children and grandchildren to make an easy transfer into the future world vote Green Party on May 6th.
