A FORMER brickworks site in Risca could be used for an animal project for disadvantaged children, farmland or as a conservation area.
Caerphilly council’s cabinet is to determine the future of the former Waun Fawr Brickworks Site in Danygraig.
The council-owned site was used for landfill in the 1970s and 80s and has recently been leased to the farmer of Buck Farm, which adjoins the land.
Three options for the future of the site will be put to cabinet members tomorrow.
One option is to use the site for the Lylac Ridge project, which provides opportunities for youngsters to interact with animals through various activities.
The animal learning centre provides a base for activities for local schools, volunteers and organisations interested in learning about the countryside, wildlife and conservation.
A report to the cabinet says the project’s future is unclear as the owner currently leases an area of adjoining land, but the lease is due to expire shortly and she cannot afford the price the landowner has offered her to buy the land.
If cabinet members choose to lease the land to the project to secure its future, it would be for a nominal rent.
