SIX Newport charities, including the Argus-backed Sparkle Appeal, will receive donations from a city firm as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations.
Tovey Brothers Funeral Directors, based on Cardiff Road, has chosen to support six charities to reflect the six generations of the family who have run the business since it stated in 1860.
Those who will benefit from a total of £900 include children’s charity, Sparkle Appeal, St David’s Foundation and St Anne’s Hospice and homeless project Newport Night Shelter.
Hold out a Hand and the Royal Gwent and St Woolos Cardiology Fund also received donations and the company has pledged to continue its support to all six causes in the future. James Tovey, 39, whose great, great, great grandfather stated the business, said: “In our line of work we meet so many families who have lost loved ones to illnesses such as cancer and heart disease, that we feel it’s important to support the vital work of charities.
Co-ordinator at the Newport Night Shelter, Stuart Johnson, said: “We are very grateful for the donation from Tovey Bros, as they understand the value of what we do.”
