A TOP cabinet minister banged on the doors of Newport East voters yesterday as campaigning in the city continues.
Ed Miliband, secretary of state for energy and climate change, stepped onto the streets of Somerton with Jessica Morden, who is fighting re-election in the seat.
He told the Argus that with only several days left before the election the focus was now on getting people out to vote.
"Every area that doesn't elect a Labour MP increases the chances of David Cameron becoming prime minister," he said.
Mr Miliband used his chance with voters to promote the party's policies on tax credits, and said Labour was the only party that would protect them.
Mum-of-two Julieanne Gilmore, 42, raised her worries about anti-social behaviour and discipline in schools with Mr Miliband. She said it was a good thing to see the minister door-knocking in Newport.
"It is nice to see them go around. It's more personal," she said.
