THE wife of Lord German and a current Torfaen councillor took her seat in the Assembly yesterday.
Veronica German has taken up her position as South Wales East member for the Liberal Democrats, vacated by her husband.
She will represent her party on health and local government issues in the Assembly, and will also sit on the body's petitions committee.
The AM, who has worked as a schoolteacher across South Wales, is also a Torfaen councillor for Llanyrafon North, and was a Newport councillor between 2004 and 2008.
She has a degree in chemical engineering and a masters degree in biochemical engineering and hopes to focus on science and engineering issues in the Assembly, as well as Severn Bridge Tolls and the Welsh Assembly Government's Clinical Futures programme.
She said: "I am very pleased to be able to represent the people of South Wales East in the National Assembly."
She took the as role as she was second in the list of top-up seats the Liberals Democrats put to voters at the last general election.
