THE winner of the National Eisteddfod Crown's links with and inspiration from Gwent was revealed yesterday.
Glenys Mair Glyn Roberts, from Llantrisant in Rhondda Cynon Taff, picked up the award for her poem "Cenaist Gan" on the theme of 'newid' or 'change'.
It was inspired by and a tribute to her father Reg Powell, from Pontnewynydd, who died in his early 80s nine years ago.
Mrs Roberts said without her father's decision as a young man to learn the Welsh language, it would be unlikely she would have even been on stage yesterday.
This was the first time the mother-of-three, who still has family in Pontypool, has competed for the crown and has been writing poetry for ten years.
She said: "With this year's Eisteddfod in the old county of Monmouthshire, the privilege of winning the crown is a complete thrill. My father would have loved it."
