Keeping the visitors filled with Welsh cakes is Newport’s Karen Shellam, 49. Her mobile food business, Fresh as a daisy, has pitched up in Ebbw Vale for this week and hungry visitors are keeping her busy.
She has “lost count” of the number of cakes she has made, cooked and sold and is on the Maes from around 7am every day getting ready for the deluge and she admits her customers are a healthy mix of Welsh and English speakers.
She added: “It’s been very good, especially on Sunday when it was heaving.”
