We are well blessed with trees in our area, what with Beechwood and Woodland parks and the splendid avenue along St Julian’s Road.
However, the hardest winter for a generation followed by the driest year since 1929 have produced hard conditions for urban trees.
There is some evidence of leaf miner and bleeding cancer but it doesn’t seem to be a serious outbreak. The Council is hoping for a site survey by the Diagnostic & Advisory Service of Forest Research at Alice Holt.
If you have any concerns about trees in your area contact the Council Tree Officer Joe Atkinson on 232 819 or joseph.atkinson@newport.gov.uk Based on information supplied by David Hando.
