A ROW over an advertising hoarding overlooking the 18th hole of the Ryder Cup cost a Gwent council more than £4,000, it was revealed yesterday.
Monmouthshire Council said the dispute, which arose after bookmaker Paddy Power erected a 85 meters by 15 meters sign on land in Llanhennock, incurred £2,150 in court and legal costs, and £2,000 in labour and equipment costs.
In total the incident left the council with a £4,150 bill. A spokesman said the council was in the process of recovering the legal bill from Paddy Power.
Contractors began erecting the Hollywood-style advert for the company on Monday - but Monmouthshire argued the advert breached advertising control rules and ordered an injunction against Paddy Power.
A Cardiff judge awarded the injunction on Wednesday, ordering the lettering be taken down by noon yesterday and the structure by the same time on October 2.
