IT’S not your usual form of transport but for Newport woman Rachael Netherway, dog scootering is the perfect way to get from A to B.
Mrs Netherway, 38, of Nash, took up the activity after seeing the idea on a website and now loves to spend her free time out and about in Newport on her special non-motorised scooter which is pulled along by her two dogs.
She is now also urging others interested in taking the activity up to join in the fun and help her set up a local dog scootering group.
Mrs Netherway said: "It is great fun and helps to keep me active while also exercising the dogs."
Mrs Netherway took up the activity a month ago after originally taking up ‘bikejoring’ in September last year.
This saw her two dogs Dexter, a seven-year-old Springer Spaniel, and Badger, a two-year-old Springer Spaniel cross Collie, pull her along on a bicycle.
After finding this a bit too dangerous, Mrs Netherway discovered dog scootering and bought a special dog scooter for around £200.
She now regularly takes her dogs out around Nash and to places such as Newport Wetlands.
She said: "I get some quite varied reactions. People will either come up and have a giggle about it or they will just pretend they haven’t seen me. It is great fun though and I now want to set up a local group for others to join me in the activity."
Anyone who is interested in joining Mrs Netherway to set up a local group can contact her on 01633 277776.
