ARRIVA Trains Wales launched legal action today in a bid to halt the train drivers strike on Friday.
The industrial action planned by rail union RMT is set to cause chaos for rugby fans travelling to Cardiff for the Wales v England Six Nations match.
The Argus reported last week how Arriva Trains Wales had expected to cater for around 32,000 passengers for the match which kicks off at 7.45pm.
A statement by ATW said its application for injunction will be heard in the High Court in London on Wednesday and a decision will be expected that same day.
Legal papers were served to the RMT today and the company awaits a response.
An Arriva Trains Wales spokesman said: “Communication channels will remain open should the RMT wish to return to discussions.”
The company said it had offered a pay increase of 12 percent over two years which would increase drivers’ salaries to £39,117 for a 35 hour four day average week.
ATW drivers voted by 85 percent for action after negotiations, which started in May last year, failed to come to a resolution.
