A CWMBRAN block of flats could undergo £700,000 worth of work if plans get the go ahead.

Bron Afon Community Housing has submitted plans to Torfaen Council to refurbish Monmouth House in the town centre.

There are 56 flats in the block made up of 21 leaseholder flats and 35 flats which are rented out by Bron Afon.

The residents live in the block which is above shops such as WHSmith and the Body Shop.

Further consultation with tenants and leaseholders is to be carried out about the full details of the plans.

The planned work, estimated to cost around £700,000, currently includes installing external wall insulation, repairing the roof and replacing windows.

Dave Sharman from Bron Afon said: “This is the second largest residential block in Cwmbran. The work we propose will ensure the building is in a good condition for many years to come.

“If we get the go-ahead thousands of shoppers will see a lot of the work taking place each day. The location of building will make it an unusual but challenging place to work.”
