YNYSDDU schoolchildren are enjoying their new £8,500 outdoor play area thanks to community funding.
The new feature at Ynysddu Primary School, which includes an adventure play area, an outdoor classroom and a bird watching area, was jointly funded by different organisations including Solid Ground and a Community Focus schools grant.
Other funding was provided from the school’s Parent Teacher Association and the school budget.
Islwyn MP Chris Evans opened the area, created by Groundwork Caerphilly, which has also helped the school achieve its second eco schools green flag.
The school achieved its first green flag, which is awarded to schools for their environmentally friendly activities, at the end of 2007.
Headteacher John Farmer said: "The new outdoor area will provide an exciting experience for the children all year round. They are all really looking forward to using it more in the future."
