THIS is the former RAF aircrew member, believed to be living in Blackwood, whom a Flintshire man is trying to track down.

Paul Faircloth of Mold, is trying to trace Sergeant Hugh David Davies, aged 19 in this picture, who was a member of his father Leslie Faircloth’s aircrew in 1944.

Sergeant Davies was flight engineer in Lancaster ND424 of 12 Squadron, Bomber Command based at RAF Wickenby in Lincolnshire.

Mr Faircloth said the aircrew were shot down following a raid on the Vaires-sur Marne railway yards on the eastern outskirts of Paris on June 27, 1944. All seven members of the crew survived by parachuting to the south west of Paris.

Mr Faircloth said: "All of the crew had very different experiences. Three became prisoners of war and four were evaders including my father and Sergeant Davies or “Dai” as he was known to the crew.

"The crew never saw each other after this so I have been trying to track them all down to see what happened to everyone."

While Mr Faircloth has managed to find out about many of the others and even arranged reunions with some, he is now searching for the last two members, one of which is Sergeant Davies.

Through research, Mr Faircloth has found that Sergeant Davies was born on March 2, 1925 and that his peacetime address was in Maes-y-Garn Road, Oakdale, Blackwood.

Before the war he was a fitter and he joined the RAF in March 1943 with the serial number 183026.

Mr Faircloth said: "It would be great to find out about Dai and his story."

Leslie Faircloth, 85, now lives with his wife Megan in Pentre Broughton, Wrexham.
