THREE Chepstow teenagers touched by Alzheimers raised more than £1,000 to help sufferers of the condition.
Fifteen-year-olds Rhys ap Gwilym Williams and Myfanwy Gamble joined 16-year-old Hannah Polhill, to dedicate hours of their time to hold fundraising events at their school, Chepstow Comprehensive.
Over the last two years, they arranged everything from cake sales to competitions and raffles.
Their first event, a sponsored silence, raised around £200 and since then, they arranged small fundraisers every few months.
They chose to donate the total of £1,200 to the Alzheimers Society, as they had each seen family and friends affected by the disease.
Rhys first came into contact with it when his mum Caroline, a hairdresser, used to take an elderly lady with Alzheimer's, one of her customers at the salon, to bingo sessions.
Rhys said: "It was horrible to see and quite upsetting. We chose the charity as we knew the money would be going to a good cause."
Hannah's grandma Daisy also suffered from the disease, whilst Myfanwy had it in her family.
Rhys said: "We want to thank everyone who helped us out and we couldn't have done it without Helen."
The students had to put an end to the fundraising as they are due to start revising for their GCSE exams.
