26-year-old Carl Whant from Newport has tonight been charged with the murder of Nikitta Grender.
The 19-year-old mother-to-be was found stabbed to death at her home in Broadmead Park in the early hours of Saturday February 5 after firefighters were called to a blaze at her flat.
The teenager was eight-and-a-half month pregnant with a girl, which she had planned to name Kelsey May.
Tonight, Detective Superintendent Geoff Ronayne confirmed that they have charged Carl Whant with Miss Grender's murder.
Stacey Turner, District Crown Prosecutor for the CPS said Gwent Police had gathered sufficient evidence to proceed.
Whant also faces a second charge under the Infant Life Preservation act 1929 of child destruction in relation to the Miss Grender's unborn baby.
Whant is due to appear before Caerphilly Magistrates court on Monday.
