NEWPORT will see the return of its Race for Life this year.
The 5km run is coming back to the city on September 25 after a 12-month hiatus As in previous years, it will be held at Tredegar Park to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Newport first held the race in 2005, but Cancer Research UK said it was not held last year as it was looking at the cost effectiveness of its races, but due to popularity and demand, they decided not just to bring it back but hold two races, at 11am and 3pm, on one day.
Newport council leader Matthew Evans said: "I am delighted that such a prominent event as the Race for Life is returning to Newport. The event has always had a large turnout from residents of the city and I am sure they will show their support for such a worthwhile cause again."
Organisers hope to get 2,500 women for each race. The Cwmbran race is on June 26.
