A RISCA woman is enjoying success both as a soloist singer and a choir conductor.
Emma Hughes, 26, is through to the next round of the “A Voice for Wales” competition which aims to find the top singing talent in the country.
To add to this, Miss Hughes, who is a lecturer in performing arts at Coleg Gwent, was put through to the regional finals of national talent show Britain’s Got Variety at the weekend both with the Coleg Gwent show choir which she conducted and as a soloist.
The choir, which is made up of around 20 16-19-year-olds performed “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent in the auditions held at Newport's Dolman Theatre, while Miss Hughes sang “I could have danced all night” from My Fair Lady.
Miss Hughes said: "I am really pleased and very proud of the choir. It was a really great opportunity for them to show what they can do."
Miss Hughes and the choir will now both audition at next month’s regional finals at the Dolman Theatre competing for a place in the national finals and a chance to perform at the 02.
Miss Hughes will audition for the next round of 'A Voice for Wales’ in Cardiff at the end of this month for a chance to win a contract with Decca Records who are organising the competition.
