C12 Dance Theatre presented a double bill of their physical dance work at the Riverfront Studio which featured Enough and their critically acclaimed piece, The Chair.
Opening with the newer of the two, Enough was about the struggle of living with a burden. The two performers worked brilliantly together, playing off each other’s strengths and clearly demonstrating through their movements the difficulty in looking after a burden, which can sometimes feel like a dead weight.
Although the piece was well performed I felt it leapt into the deep end too soon, presenting an intense continual emotion without a sense of climax and left it audience struggling to connect.
The second piece, The Chair, was a brilliant insight into the mind of a man had grown up in a household of domestic abuse.
We followed the story through flashbacks and dreams to discover the truth about how this amazingly sweet man ended up facing The Chair. Nasae Evanson, who played the man exploring his roots and relationships, was incredible and the eye was drawn to his brilliant control and his expressive face.
Moments of slow motion were touches of genius and allowed the audience to glimpse the pain, sadness and shock in the man’s eyes. This beautifully touching story clearly is well deserving of its critical acclaim and is a must see.
