VOLUNTEERS are needed to help clean up fly-tipping in Abergavenny. A joint initiative between Fly Tipping Action Wales, Monmouthshire county council and Tidy Towns and Gwent Police aims to tackle fly -tipping and littering in the county.
Sergeant Tony Patey, Abergavenny neighbourhood policing team, said: “Litter and fly-tipping can promote a perception in the community that laws can be disregarded and make an area look neglected, attracting more anti-social behaviour and crime.”
“We hope that the community will take pride in their local area and join in events to make them nice and safer places to live and visit,” he said.
The first event takes place on Wednesday February 23 at 10am meeting at Hillcrest Road, Mardy. A second clear up takes place in an area of Abergavenny that has been blighted by fly-tipped waste is on grounds owned by Our lady & St Michael’s School, Pen y Pound and the Station Surgery, near Merthyr Road.
The meeting point for volunteers will be Chapel Road at 10am on Saturday February 26.
