A WELSH Assembly member is to receive an award after helping make history with a new law.
Clwyd AM Ann Jones's measure for the compulsory fitting of sprinklers in all new homes in Wales was approved in The Senedd last week - making it the first legislation of its kind anywhere in the world.
Ms Jones, who worked in the fire service for more than 20 years before becoming a politician, will be presented with the Bernadette Hartley Award at the House Of Lords on March 28.
The annual accolade is given to mark outstanding achievement in campaigns for fire safety in the UK.
It is the second time in less than a week that the 57-year-old AM has picked up a prize for her measure.
Last weekend, she was given a National Campaign Award by Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, Peter Hain, at the Welsh Labour Conference in Llandudno.
Ms Jones spoke of her delight at her latest gong.
"Fire sprinklers are life saving devices which should have been a feature in our homes much sooner,’’ she said.
